Hello Friends,
As I reflect on my last couple of months, I appreciate that my art has been quite cozy being at Demun Healing; it feels very much cohesive. I mimic themes in the natural world, such as the flow of nature, through my artwork. The relationship with the center has been symbiotic and reflects these themes well.
In September, I will show my new work titled “Dreaming the Magpie”, as well as mounted prints of some of my favorite other pieces, at the Center for Spiritual Living. I look forward to showing my art here. Although I’m not a regular at this center, I find myself at home with the spiritual theme and people.
The title “Dreaming the Magpie” comes from one of my newer works featuring a magpie and whimsical “dreamy” tones. I have always found this bird very alluring. In researching the magpie, I discovered that it has a dual meaning; it can be bad luck, but it may also be good luck. In comparison to its cousin, the crow, which is entirely black and intelligent, the magpie expresses a beautiful black, white, and blue color pattern. Magpies display adaptability, resourcefulness, and one of my favorite qualities, mischievousness.
Magpie’s duality of good and bad luck also speaks to me as it relates to the greater themes of life. Most of what I represent in my work is related to life, movement, and the living world. Still, concerning spiritual themes, it is essential to respect that nature runs its course, and eventually, there is an end, whether for good or for bad. Sometimes I avoid this truth. With this, the truth I’m currently facing is the end of Summer. Back to classes, back to school, less time in the studio, but maybe a little relief from the heat, and the opportunity to have some exciting new art shows.
I hope to see you at my opening on Sunday, September 14th, from 12:30 to 2:30 at the Center for Spiritual Living, located at 12875 Fee Fee Rd, St. Louis, MO 63146.
